PALESTINE - ISRAEL - JORDAN - SINAI

Off the beaten track tours • Visit sites • Meet locals • Discuss Human Rights & Politics

A geopolitical, virtual tour of the Golan Heights and Israel’s contested northern borders with Syria and Lebanon.

To celebrate the opening of Israel’s borders after months of pandemic induced closure, join us to explore them in more detail. In this online tour we will visit the Golan Heights, an area Israel conquered in the 1967 Six Day War and has held ever since, despite the international community considering it occupied territory. We will explore the fate of the people living there before and after, many of whom became refugees in Syria and others who do not have Israeli citizenship despite being born and living their whole lives in Israeli controlled territory. We will discuss the Druze, a thousand year old ethno-religious group whose main homeland is today split between Israel, Lebanon and Syria. We will visit border communities living an uneasy life waiting decades for an official resolution to the wars many fought there.

Virtually visiting the rivers, mountains and castles of this region with us is the perfect way to scratch the travel itch and start planning the next real trip! Like all our online events here will be time for discussion and questions, and registration for the event is free – but you are encouraged to contribute whatever you felt it was worth at the end.
