PALESTINE - ISRAEL - JORDAN - SINAI

Off the beaten track tours • Visit sites • Meet locals • Discuss Human Rights & Politics

On Sunday, May 31st of 2026 we joined for a conversation and film screening with Ghassan Najjar of the Burin land and Farming Cooperative in advance of the 2026 Burin Kite Festival in July. The community of Burin came together to host their annual kite festival and invited people around the world to fly kites along with them and host events in their own communities as part of a global call to action against military occupation.

We are joined with Ghassan to learn more about the community of Burin and speak in advance of the kite festival. He is the joint director of the Burin Land and Farming Cooperative, a Palestinian agricultural collective and grassroots workers cooperative committed to developing agroecology as a means of actualizing food sovereignty, environmental justice, and mutual aid in the face of both Israeli military occupation and the privatization of communal resources. For years Ghassan has organized creative direct actions like the kite festival and popular civil resistance in defense of his community and in support of farmers, students, shepherds, and others in his community bearing the brunt of state violence.

We were also very glad to screen the short film “Kites of Burin” and be joined by its creators Brandon Tonner-Connolly and Raphael Mimoun to speak with us about their week embedded in Burin and attending the annual kite festival in 2024. The film was featured at the Gene Siskel Film Center and the Chicago Palestine Film Festival.

This recording of the webinar is free and open to the public, but you can contribute to the Green Olive Collective at this link to sustain our work to challenge the violence of occupation and advocate for a democratic future: https://sowingsolidarity.com
