Jocelyn Qassis _ April 2026

In recent days, the areas of Harasa and Ush al-Ghurab in Beit Sahour have witnessed a disturbing surge in settler gang activity, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing violence against Palestinian communities. These acts of aggression, ranging from the destruction of agricultural livelihoods to direct attacks on homes, are part of a broader, systematic effort to displace Palestinians and seize their land.

This report details the recent incidents, provides statistical context, and calls for urgent international attention and solidarity.

On April 19, 2026, settler gangs launched coordinated attacks in Ush al-Ghurab and Jabal Harasa, east of Beit Sahour. These aggressions included the uprooting of newly planted olive saplings, a vital source of income and cultural heritage for Palestinian farmers. Concurrently, homes in Jabal Harasa were subjected to attacks, instilling fear and insecurity among residents. Just a month prior, on March 18, 2026, settlers provocatively raised Israeli flags in the area, signaling their intent to assert control.

Further exacerbating the situation, settlers have seized the headquarters of “Rujm al-Naqa” in al-Rashaida, east of Bethlehem, and illegally installed a water network, further entrenching their presence and control over Palestinian resources. These incidents are not isolated; they follow a pattern of provocations, including those in Khalayel al-Loz and Abu Njeim in the Bethlehem district on April 18, 2026.

Statistical Analysis: A Growing Crisis

The recent events in Beit Sahour are indicative of a rapidly escalating crisis across the West Bank. Statistics from 2026 reveal an alarming trend of increased settler violence and its devastating impact on Palestinian communities:

Metric2026 (Jan-Apr)2025 (Full Year)Comparison
Palestinian DisplacementMore than 2025 total [2]621 (2024 total) [1]Significant increase
Child Displacement685 children [3]Not specifiedAlarming rise
Palestinians InjuredOver 260 [4]Not specifiedHigh number

In the first three months of 2026, settler violence has already displaced more Palestinians than in the entirety of 2025, highlighting the intensified pressure on vulnerable communities. A staggering 685 children were displaced in the first quarter of 2026 alone, according to Save the Children, underscoring the severe humanitarian impact. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reports over 260 Palestinians injured by settlers in 2026 so far.

The Bethlehem district, in particular, is under immense pressure. The establishment of “pastoral outposts” in Area C is a deliberate strategy to fragment Palestinian land and sever the vital corridor connecting Jerusalem and Bethlehem.

The Green Olive Collective’s Stand:

The Green Olive Collective, a binational organization dedicated to advocacy, education, and solidarity, stands firmly against these acts of violence and dispossession. Their mission is to end the occupation, achieve equality for all, and uphold the Palestinian right of return [5]. Through initiatives like rebuilding and replanting, including the planting of over 2000 olive trees, Green Olive actively works to rehabilitate lands damaged by settler attacks and support affected communities.

Call to Action:

The international community must recognize the systematic nature of settler violence and hold perpetrators accountable. We urge immediate intervention to protect Palestinian communities in Beit Sahour and across the West Bank from further aggression and displacement. Support organizations like the Green Olive Collective, who are on the ground, working tirelessly for justice and peace.
